Veris Soil advice service
Every farmer knows that there is variation present in the soil. Differences in soil composition are not just present per area, but even within the plot, so a uniform treatment of plots will not lead to the optimum result. In many places, on the basis of feeling and experience this variation is already anticipated, but there is room for improvement!
To optimize your soil composition, harvest and yield, it is necessary to form an accurate picture of the variation. Difficult? No, it’s not, with the Veris soil advice service, you can easily chart your land.
Vantage Agrometius & Agrifirm Plant offer you a unique service
Collectively, Vantage Agrometius & Agrifirm Plant offer you a unique service by means of which you can increase your yield in 3 steps. The products, knowledge and experience of both parties are combined and the result is that you can set to work in a very focused and purposeful way.

Task maps
Uniform pH is the basis for an optimum growth and quality
The pH of the soil, also referred to as the acidity, is almost never homogenous within a plot. Even if you have added lime during the past decades in accordance with the official advice, in the course of time a natural variation in the pH occurs, a variation of 1 point as can be seen in the illustration is very normal. This variation costs yield and has a negative influence on the quality. Depending on the crop and organic matter content, the loss of yield from too low a pH could rise to as much as 50%! From this it appears that the Veris soil scan in combination with the place-specific addition of lime quickly rewards!
Homogeneous and optimum yield on every part of the plot
Compost is used in order to improve the soil quality. Within plots, the soil quality varies, and as a result of this variation the need for compost is greater in one place than in other places. With compost, phosphate is also added, which is a limiting factor from a legal point of view for the supply quantity of organic matter. By spreading compost in specific places, you will be able to work in a much more focused way with the same amount of compost!
Improve your soil structure by adding gypsum in specific places
Within a plot, there is a considerable difference in structure. By adding gypsum, people try to improve the structure and often the same dose is deployed for the whole plot. By adding extra calcium, the share of this element in the clay-humus complex (CEC) increases, as a result of which the processability improves.
But note!: a negative effect of a standard dose on the whole plot is that places which can be processed sufficiently also receive extra calcium. As a result, the element of calcium takes up too great a share in the clay-humus complex (CEC). The calcium element therefore suppresses the potassium and magnesium elements.
As a result of the place-specific application of gypsum, the structure is improved where necessary and the nutrients become available for the plant throughout the whole plot in the correct proportion. In this way, you gain benefits for your soil as well as financial benefits!
A more uniform end product and a higher yield
Crop yields are strongly dependent on the basis and organic matter content. In ‘lighter’ places, the crop will appear sooner and will have more stalks per m2 and in ‘heavier’ places the crop will persevere for longer but will have less stalks per m2.
In order to realize a more uniform product, you can vary the sowing or seed potato distances. Thanks to a better redistribution of your seeded potatoes on the basis of your soil qualities, a more uniform product is produced with a higher yield!
Better result with less means
The working of soil herbicides depends on the weight of the ground and the organic matter content. In the most advices, a standard amount for the whole plot is advised. The crop in the lighter parts of the plot will suffer from too high a dose of soil herbicides. The development of the crop will be slower and this could ultimately result in a reduced yield. Research has shown that place-specific application of soil herbicides in seed onions can produce an added return of €150/ha and a financial saving of € 20/ ha.
Prevent a deficiency in fertilization placement space and increase nitrogen and phosphate efficiency.
The soil fertility within plots is not the same in many cases. The variation present is often the result of differences in the organic matter content. Due to the limitations in phosphate and/or nitrogen space, place-specific deployment of organic manure offers added value!
Ensure a more efficient utilization of rain water
On the basis of measurements using the Veris soil scan, it is possible to chart the water buffering capacity of the plot. In combination with a soil moisture station (Geobas), the optimum watering time is determined and the variation within the plot is taken into account. Focused watering has the aim of saving on rain water and energy and preventing nutrients from being washed away.
Dealing with nematodes where they cause damage
Are you bothered by nematodes on your plot? Particularly in places with a low organic matter percentage/lutum percentage, problems with nematodes occur. In places with more organic matter/lutum, the presence of the same nematodes often leads to less problems. As a result, it is less necessary to control nematodes in places with more organic matter/lutum. The aim of the place-specific application of granulates is to deal with nematode damage with a minimum dose over the plot in order to save on costs and the environment.
Trenches in plots at the correct location
The climate is becoming more and more unpredictable, and as a result we will have to take more and more account of extremely wet periods. During these periods, in order to prevent water in enclosed layers of the plot, it is important to make trenches in the correct location. On the basis of the height and EC map, lines are generated by means of which you can drive with a suitable GPS system to make the trench in the correct location.
